I’m building Conway Research, an AI lab working on efficient models, fast inference, and personal AI that runs on your own hardware.

We call our thesis Underdog’s Law: the capabilities of today’s frontier models will be running on personal devices within six months. We’re building the models, inference engines, and products to make that happen.

Underdog

Our first product is Underdog, a personal AI that runs locally on your Mac. You can use its models even without an internet connection.

We also built Husky, an inference engine tailored to our Woof model on Apple silicon. In our published benchmarks, it reached up to 4.5× MLX’s token generation speed with Woof 4B on M5 Max. That peak was on a function-edit task with Flash enabled.

In February 2026, I wrote Web 4.0, which reached 10 million views in 48 hours.

The majority of participants on the internet will soon be AI — agents acting on behalf of a human, another agent, or entirely on their own, transacting at machine speed, outnumbering humans by orders of magnitude.
